How would you define pop music?

Pop music_ literally, is Popular Music

How would I define it:

something that helps me pass time; something I enjoy once in a while.

Music intended to express the feelings and ideas of young people (aged c.10-18) as experienced exactly at that moment in time.

I think that pop music can be in any style, for example, rock, r&b, jazz etc. The tendency is to make it conform to whatever is the current fashion in hits.

Pop music is designed purely with the aim of achieving immediate popularity and vast sales. The ultimate goal of the singer is that the song will rise to number 1 in the charts to become the current 'top of the pops'.

Basically, andything on the Top 40 charts. The style is not necesarily pop, but its still "popular" music.
