I need help with an essay for Honors Philosophy.
How and why did the translation movement, especially the stage during which the sciences and philosophy were the pricipal texts being translated, change he landscape of northern Christian Europe? What problems did the arrival of the of the Greek philosophical tradition pose for the three monotheistic traditions (Muslim, Jews, and Christians) and why? How have these same problems-- the opposition between faith and reason-- continued to shape the Western civilization since the twelfth century. If anyone knows how the translation movement changed the christian society that would be so much help for me. Thanks for your time. |

I'll be frank and say that to attempt to really answer these specific questions would basically be writing that essay for you. I wrote a very similar essay for a western civ class some years ago and it took alot of work and reference documents. I'm assuming that there is a book for your class that covers most of that information in detail.
It's interesting, because your first question is from the Discussion Questions "ReadingGroupGuides.com" You can try this site... Middle Ages Also - try going to http://www.yale.edu There is an article that you might find helpful. I do not want to post a link directly to it from here as it specifically states not to cite or quote from it - but you might find it informative. Go to that site and search with the words "twelfth century antisemitism" and see where it brings you. Hope this info at least gets you started in the right direction. ~Lydia |
