Assess this statement, using the following documents and your knowledge of the period from 1830 to 1860.

What in the hell does that mean? I'm having the worst time with this essay. I don't think leadership comes into the issue at all, and I also think the only extremism was slavery. So how do I write that? I am so lost. I'm on the verge of crying, cos I've been sitting here for 12 hours completely clueless.
