I would like to know where it was that the Wright brothers did their practice flight. I know that it is somewhere in France. And that in the town that it occured in, there is a street called Rue les freres Wright after them. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

to the best of my knowledge the Wrights did their practice flights at Kitty Hawk as well as their first powered flights.
Several articles on the Wright Brothers are in the current editions of Smithosonian,Scientific American. There may well be a street in France named in their honor. If I would hazard a guess of Versaille where the Mongolfier brothers flew their baloon. The Learning Channel and Discovery Channel have and information as well. Library of Congress Web site may have the information that you're looking for as well. December 17th is coming up fast for the centenial recreation of the first flight. |

The Wright brothers first flew at Kittyhawk (as Peteeo says) in 1903. The wright brothers kept their new invention fairly publicity free (considering how huge it was). Within a few years, a number of people managed to get planes to 'fly,' and they did much of this in Europe, particularly France. Their flights were only seconds, though. To be fair, the Wright borther's first flights were only seconds as well, but by this point, they were able to fly for minutes and even hours. They went to France to show off their invention in 1908 or so, but it can hardly be called a test flight as they had been flying successfully for about 5 years at that point and the reason for the flight was to show off, not to test anything. I don't know the name of the town they flew in, but I'll take a look (I'm pretty sure it was in 1908).
Edit: Lemans, france, August 8, 1908 |

Wilbur also later flew near Hunandieres and then Auvours. I don't know which, if any, of these towns have the street you refer to.
