Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) is the only companion of the holy prophet (peace be upon him) mentioned by name. Some others companions are also refered to but not by name. It is said that several of the verses in Quran refer to Ali (may Allah bless him).
Can anyone quote any of such verse ?
ps: Ali (may Allah bless him) is the 4th caliph of Islam and the second person to accept Islam.
Verse 23 of Sura 42 reads {42:23}: "Say O Muhammad to mankind: I do not ask of you any reward for it, but love for relatives, and whosoever earns good".
According to traditions when the Holy Prophet was asked as to who were the relatives alluded to in the verse, the Holy Prophet said, "Verily, the reference is to Ali, Fatima, Hassan and Husain".

As a personal note, I was fascinated to learn more of the Sunni / Shia division on the way to finding this resource. Thank you, bik, for the question.
Do you believe that Sunnis removed the name of Ali from the Quran?

The answer is right. The link is perfect (as it was my link as well) and gives other references to Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) as well.
Coldfuse your question with regard to removal of the name of Ali (peace be upon him) from Quran... if I believed it ?
Well to my knowledge even shias do not believe that. We sunni and shias do have an agreement on the originality of Quran, unless there is something that I do not know off. Remember the site you selected also gives references of other companions of holy prophet (peace be upon him) in the Quran. Again none is mentioned by name.
The dispute as mentioned by me before between shias and sunnis is: As per shia, Ali (may Allah bless him) was the rightful leader of muslims after the death of holy prophet.
You said you were fascinated to learn about sunni/shia differences... weill indeed the stories are interesting and contradicitng (ie the story told by sunni and the story told by shias). God knows better which side has the right history. But your answer was perfect.

I found this verse most interesting as the explaination in detail (and perhaps exaggerated) was told to me by a shia muslim.
Verse 61 of Sura 3 provides {3:61}: "And who so disputes with you concerning God after the knowledge which has come to you say to him: Come, we will summon our sons, your sons, our women and your women and ourselves and yourselves. Then we will pray humbly to our Lord, and solemnly invoke the curse of Allah upon those who lie."
Again the reference in this verse is to the same people as mentioned by Coldfuse. Peace
