Contemplating the death of the sun, this philosopher once wrote perhaps the most depressing paragraph in the English language: “...All the labors of the ages, all the devotion, all the inspiration, all the noonday brightness of human genius, are destined to extinction in the vast death of the solar system, and the whole temple of Mans achievement must inevitably be buried beneath the debris of a universe in ruins...”

That would be Russell, but hey, we wouldn't get to know the outcome anyhow. We don't live long enough. A lot of people deal with the concept of the void by creating myths to overcome the feeling of pointlessness. Such myths include the whole sci-fi field, in which humans have endless possibilities. and of course the whole eternal-life-after-death business.

As for me, I see life as process, not goal-oriented. Even an hour's consciousness is precious. Wink So don't let it bum you out, Moze.
