I've been looking through mottos of US states and countries and I found some interesting ones.

What is England's motto?
What's California's motto?
What's Michigan's motto?
What is West Virginia's motto?
What is Louisiana's motto?
What is Georgia's motto? (I like my motto...assuming one of them is what I think it means.)

Georgia:Wisdom,Justice and Moderation.
Michigan: Si quaeris peninsulam amoenam circumspice. (If you seek a beautiful peninsula ,look around you).
California: Eureka ( I found it)
West Virginia: Montani semper liberi.(Mountaneers are always free)
Louisiana:Union Justice and Confidence.
England: Dieu et mon droit (God and my right).

This list on Wikipedia says "Shamed be he who thinks ill of it" for England itself, although when I click on I get the motto for the UK. So now I'm not sure. Hmmm.

I thought England's motto was "Ask Karrow; she's the Boss" which, amazing, is also AnswerPool's motto. But then, I really don't know. You'd have to...ask Karrow.

The Scottish half of the United Kingdom has 'Nemo me impune lacessit' meaning 'Nobody provokes me with impunity' but also 'Nobody attacks me without suffering for it'. This motto is, appropriately, illustrated with a thistle, the national emblem . It can be witnessed in action in the street outside any Glasgow pub at closing time. It was chosen by James VI of Scotland ( James I of England) for his coins and serves as the motto of the Order of the Thistle (an honour) inter alia.

The Welsh have no motto, being part of England for this purpose, though the Prince of Wales has 'Ich dien' , 'I serve' (German).

(Nobody here seems to have a motto in the language of the people, a reflection of the fact that British royalty was French or German or Latin speaking at Court and/or privately )

Jusork, if you click on my link above,it explains that England has "The motto of the Monarchs" (Dieu et mon droit), and the motto of the "order of the Garter", behind the shield, which is the one you've been mentioning, but written in French.( Honi soit qui mal y pense)

No,because (that's my guess) most of the regions of the UK have their own distinct motto already,as FredPuli explained about Scotland and Wales etc....
