For some reason, possibly the reference to the Highlands of Scotland, Alexander Graham Bell comes to mind. While most Americans think of him as an American inventor, he was born in Scotland, and lived for a few years in Canada before settling in the US. Towards the end of his life, he moved back to Canada.
