Hello! I just recently completed a lab experiment on finding the specific heat of a metal (which was tin). Now I have to write a lab report and although I have started, I'm kind of stuck because I don't know exactly what to write. We have to include an abstract, introduction (which I have began), procedure and safety (I've already done), data and calculations (I have the data; haven't calculated yet), questions to answer, discussion, and conclusion.

Has anyone done this before? I really need some help. Thanks!!!

Sorry I've been traveling again...just when a question is posted. You may have your answer already through class. The good news is you are not as stuck as you think you are. You have an excellent outline. Questions to answer.. What could go wrong with your experiment? How did you prevent the mistakes.
Spilling some water, or thermometer not calibrated.. What happens if you used one calibrated in degrees F or R?
The discussion is where you can express your thoughts of what you learned and what you may wish to try next. If your classmates had copper did they get a different number? Would you be able to use the the technique to estimate an alloy...would it be a good technique etc.
Conclusions are tough to write on something that has been done 1000's of times. You can focus on what you learned and maybe compare your answer to a value found in a text book or on the internet. If your number agrees...great good job.. If it's off by even a small amount you may wish to comment on how you may try to improve your note taking or equipment.
The folks that have spent hrs and hrs collecting the data deserve a lot of credit (make sure you give them credit with a literature citation of where you found the published numbers.)
The main purpose of the experiment is to teach you the skills needed to go farther someday to a place where no one has been before. If you see something new you know it's new because you've practiced the old experiments and get the same answers you gain confidence that you did things correctly to know the new answers are also likely to be correct.

Good luck
