I am in a chemistry lab that is involving the heat of neutralization for NaOH and HCl. I have so far figured out the heat gained by the solution, heat gained by the calorimeter, and the total joules released by the reaction. It now asks me to figure out the number of moles of HCl in 50 mL of 1.O M HCl. Would the equation be 1.0 M HCl/ .05 L = the moles? Then it also asks for the number of moles of H20 produced in reaction of 50 mL 1.0 M HCl and 50 mL 1.0 M NaOH. How would I go about doing these? Are there specific tables that you can point me to that have Heats of Neutralization Reactions that have been proven in labs? Thanks.

You seem to be going about your experiment in an orderly fashion..

Remember that M= moles/liter. Using your units to check your work
.05 liters of solution * 1 mole/liter...
note howe the liters canceld out and your answer is in terms of moles.

If you have X moles of H+ and exactly the same moles of 0H-...then X moles of H20 have been formed. use a balanced equation..

look up the heats of formation of your products
Water and salt and subract out the heats of formation of your Acid and base to estimate
the heat released during the reaction.
In this case a special name of neutralization reaction.

your table will have heats of formation rather than heat of neutralization.
