Hi guys, I need some help here. I'm going to do an experiment based on the topic "dissolving rate of corrosion on metals." I've done an experiment and submitted the report to my teacher...but I didn't get a high mark since she said my experiment should be quantitative type of experiment instead of qualitative type meaning that it has to include something measurable so that there will be graphs, table, etc. And now I have to redo it again but I got no idea at all of what should I do. Help me out guys...I lost my appetite and everything because of this problem. Thanks a lot.

Hi. Your title sounds interesting. Dissolving rate of corrosion of metals. It sounds like you've designed an experiment where you can tell the difference in rates by observations.
(qualitative). How can we change the experiment where you write down your observations in numerical terms.. (quantitative) How long in minutes or hours did your solution require to disolve 1 gram of material. What can change this rate.. will higher temperatures make the reaction faster or slower? How much faster? You didn't mention what equipment you have available for quantitative. Can you titrate your solution? Can you measure the mass of the metal you are disolving? If it's a solid does the size (surface area) matter? Is there a limit on how much your solution can hold? If you cannot titrate can you make standard known solutions ? Copper(II)sulfate makes a pretty blue solution can you estimate the concentration of your solution by making various concentrations 1g/l 2g/l 0.5g/l I hope this helps to nudge you in a favorable direction. |
