Quite a while back, in a thread about boxing (yes, there was a thread about boxing), Fuse mentioned Calvin Brock as an up and coming heavy. Good eyes, Fuse. The unbeaten Brock fights IBF champion Wladimir Klitschko on November 11 in MSG. Wladimir has been uneven for the last few years, holding and then losing the WBO title, and getting KOed by a couple of tomato cans. Yet, when he is right, he is all but unbeatable. It could be a very interesting fight. If nothing else, it will feature the best educated heavyweights to ever face off against each other; Klitschko, known as the Ukrainian fight doctor, has a PhD in sports science from the University of Kiev. Brock has a degree in finance from UNC Charlotte and is known as the Boxing Banker.
Is boxing staging some sort of revolution? Two good heavyweights with university degrees fighting for the title just a few years after the chess-playing Lennox Lewis retired, opening up the division to some new blood. No wonder Tyson is just fighting 4 round exhibitions; he couldn't pass the entrance exam to get another title fight.
I just read this, something I predicted a few years ago. All the heavyweight champions are from former Soviet Union countries. Klitschko, Nikolay Valuev, Sergei Liakhovich and Oleg Maskaev ++++++++++++++++++ 10-20-06, 04:32 AM BobLaz Now THERE's a switch--two very educated fighters--which is as rare as a solar eclipse/ 80 degree day in New England in December.. Big Grin Should be a decent fight...
