who was the greatest allrounder of all times. Not many people here on this site are into cricket but still got the link for discussion. My vote goes either for Imran Khan or Sobers. +++++++++++++++ 12-11-06, 02:19 PM FredPuli Sir Richard Hadlee . Hadlee has the added distinction of batting left-handed and bowling right-handed , so he was a real 'all-rounder' Smile. He was one of the great fast bowlers of his day, having remarkable control of line and length. He took 431 wickets in Test matches at an average of 22.25. His batting was also very strong. In Test matches he scored 3,124 runs at an average of 27.16, including two centuries and fifteen fifties. He was hampered by playing for New Zealand, a weak side, where he was likely to find that he was on his own .
12-11-06, 04:04 PM bik74 Yeah Sir Richard Hadlee was a great allrounder and proberbly the best bowler in the 20 names mentioned on the site.
Imran Khan bowling average was roughly the same (22.81) while his batting average was 37.69 which is nearly 10 runs higher than Sir Richard Hadlee. Hadlee proberbly did not concentarte a lot on his batting since he was the only potent bowler in his side and had to mainly concentrate on his bowling efforts.
12-11-06, 04:27 PM Colin, Paris, France Super question this one, for it cannot be answered with any certainty as there just isn't a right answer. The first thing I have to admit is that the name of Monty Noble on the list is not known to me. Sorry, but I have to be honest. The second is that I'm a big Kapil Dev fan and I rate him very highly as well. The third point is that Matthew Engel's aricle on Ian Botham is perfect in its accuracy (except that unlike Matthew, I don't rate Ian Botham much as a commentator, though that's not relevant for the purposes of this particular posting). I lived through it all with him, you see (even when he was outbowling Engand's Geoff Arnold and it made me a tad miffed). The number of times he took five wickets in an innings seemed uncountable. He was a world-class myth in the making at his peak, and the figures and the averages add up too. My wife really worshipped him and all that derring-do. But ultimately, with five seconds to give an answer and all that, yes, Sir Richard gets my vote. A fabulous cricketer and one who played for the then unsung New Zealanders against all those "better" teams. I never saw him play, mind, other than on television.
My loss.
I hope we get lots more answers to this post.
12-11-06, 04:58 PM bik74 Oh man my Imran Khan is loosing to sir Richard Hadlee who has 2 votes here. Bedstor would have an interest in this thread so maybe his vote will help Imran Khan. Dont know about any other member interested in cricket here.
Kapil Dev played on dead wickets and his bowling figures based on that are truly great.
Very little to differntiate bteween Imran, Kapil, Botham and Hadlee. All great alltime legendary bowlers who could also bat. All played in 80's. Pitty Cilve Rice (south african) could'nt comptete.
Youd dont produce like them a lot anymore. You think S.Pollock is at there level?
