Though he has not eclipsed Jack Nicklaus' record for career majors it seems to me that it would be easy to argue that Tiger Woods is already the greatest golfer in PGA history. Not even 31 years old yet he has won 12 majors, and a total of 51 career PGA Tour victories , winning close to 25% of all the tournaments he has entered.
Is he the greatest PGA golfer ever ? ++++++++++++++++++++ 08-20-06, 07:29 PM Sailracer Jim, I don't know about "ever" but he is certainly moving that direction!

Good question--he's making golf tough to watch now due to his domination..and his course management is amazing..I would have just loved to see him play with the inferior equipment of years ago--how he would have fared with genuine "woods"; his current distance/power definitely gives him an edge... 08-30-06, 02:43 PM Koz

He is without doubt the best golfer of this current flock of professional golfers, and of his generation. I really don’t think there would be much of a debate on that.
Bob, I don’t think the current equipment has much to do with his dominance. If you gave him the same equipment of the 1950’s or 1960’s era golfers he would still be a dominating force on tour, provided they used similar equipment.
The only thing the newer equipment has done is to force golf course designers to lengthen golf courses so other golfers (using the new fangled clubs too) have a shot at winning. If Tiger had to play with comparable clubs and balls as his predecessors he still would hit the ball longer than them, have better feel around the green and sink more putts; not to mention that his better short game and bunker play is flat out remarkable.
Ever notice while most golfers are hitting driver / three wood Tiger is hitting two / three irons off the tee of moderately long par 4’s and even par 5’s. He does not out drive them but he is usually in the fairway and hits the green, or comes very close.
The man is pure “golfing greatness” in my opinion, but I am holding off calling Tiger the “ Greatest PGA golfer ever ”,,,, for now Wink .
