Passed almost unnoticed here is the fact that the upcoming Masters at Augusta will be golfing legend Gary Player's last appearance there. I saw him play on the European PGA circuit in France and he gave a master class after the end of the first day's play.
The return of Greg Norman is also worthy of note.
Godd luck to the two oldies: may they both make the cut!

At the end of the first round, Tiger is 5 strokes off the lead. I'm not a big fan of golf, but the Masters is enjoyable.

Anyone have any idea what a caddie earns for, e.g., the Masters?

Caddies are independent contractors. It is customary to pay the caddie 10% of winnings. The winner gets $1.35 million, and would thus pay his caddie $135,000.

50th (last) place wins $18,900. The total purse is over $7 million.

At Augusta , one BBC ex-pro said that the convention was that the caddy got double for winning a major. If so, that may explain why Tiger Woods' caddy is the highest paid New Zealander in sport! Apart from that, his caddy, and long-serving caddies of other stars, are likely to have a contract which pays them better than the standard rate.
