Now there was a real genius. A comic and commentator of the first rank. Social critic extraordinaire. I loved the guy. Funniest man alive. Brutally honest to a fault. The anti-bullshitter. The world needs way more George Carlins. I will dearly miss him. RIP.

This is very upsetting news. Carlin was a disciple of Bruce, and, to a lesser extent Mort Sahl but was funnier than either. I can't begin to tell how much his death is affecting me. No more Wonderful Wino, 1620 on Your Dial, Right Above the Police Calls. No more Al Sleet, the Hippy Dippy Weatherman with the Hippy Dippy Weather, Man. Every working comedian owes something to Carlin, something that they can only repay with their work. I wish they'd start, because the world needs the laughs that Carlin provided. I don't think George believed in God, but I do think that George provided Him with quite a few laughs.
From Wikipedia -
George Denis Patrick Carlin[16] (May 12, 1937 - June 22, 2008)[17][18][19] was a Grammy-winning American stand-up comedian, actor, and author.
Carlin was especially noted for his political and black humor and his observations on language, psychology, and religion along with many taboo subjects. Carlin and his "Seven Dirty Words" comedy routine were central to the 1978 U.S. Supreme Court case F.C.C. v. Pacifica Foundation, in which a narrow 5-4 decision by the justices affirmed the government's right to regulate Carlin's act on the public airwaves.
George Carlin's most recent stand-up routines were primarily focused on attacking the flaws in modern-day America. He often took on contemporary political issues in the United States and satirized the excesses of American culture.

On June 18, 2008, four days before his death, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC announced that Carlin would be the 2008 honoree of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor to be awarded in November of that year.

Sorry haven't been around for a few days...I was SO sad to hear of George Carlin's passing away. Oh my, he has always been one of my favorite comedians. And he's been around pretty much my entire life.
