When I got engaged a few years ago, my husband & I had a huge decision to make. Where to get married and what kind of ceremony to have. He is an only child and both of his parents passed away. I come from a very large, close-knit family. I wanted a big wedding, you know, the kind you dream about since you're 5. He wanted a private ceremony in front of a judge. That just wasn't romantic enough for me. Then we came up with the idea of a destination wedding. They weren't very popular then, and all the magazines I read had no info on the subject.
We settled on Kauai, Hawaii. We booked our flights, hotel, a wedding coordinator (because neither one of us had ever been to Hawaii before), and then picked out a tux and my wedding dress. I wanted to include my mom, sister and grandmother in finding my dress. Although they were sad that they weren't going to attend the ceremony, they were glad that they were included in picking out the most important part of my day.
We went to Kauai and got married in front of a waterfall by the beach on the north shore. We were on the beach where the movie South Pacific was filmed many years ago. Bali Hai is in our wedding pics. I wouldn't have changed a thing.
Now scroll foward to last night. I got a phone call from my mom telling me that my uncle and his girlfriend of 13 years are getting married. And they are having a destination wedding to Lousianna! My grandmother said with a smile that she may never forgive me for starting this whole thing.
