Got another invitation woe. Okay, here's the deal. I'm asking the priest that used to be at my parish, the priest I grew up with and just left a little over a year ago, to do the ceremony. However, I am very close to the new priest and enjoy him quite a bit. I have my reasons for chosing my former priest. Here's the situation. How do I, or do I for that matter, invite my new priest just to the wedding? Is it (here's that word again) tacky to invite him even though he's not doing the wedding? It's a real different type of situation. I know that he's not particulary fond of the way my former priest did things, but that's my choice to choose. Does this question make any sense?

It is perfectly proper to have the Cleric of your choice officiate and still invite your present Clergyman...this holds true in any faith.
I am guessing that the Priest you have asked to perform the service is the same man from whom you recieved your first Communion? He maybe heard your first confession? How sweet and how suitable that he should preside over this milestone, as he has your others.
Your current Priest might offer a blessing at the reception, if that's what you both would like, but there's nothing wrong with inviting him as a guest like any other guest.

Ooh! That's a good idea. Fr. Roger did give me my first communion, and confirmed me. And going up, I always imagined him at my wedding. I don't want Fr. Kevin's feelings to be hurt, even though I imagine he'll understand my feelings about Fr. Roger. However, by asking him to do a blessing at the reception, I can include him in the festivites! What a great idea! Thanks Shana! I love ya!!!!

MrsS, that truly is a great idea!!! Jenni, I'm sure your current priest will understand and he will likely be pleased that you want to include him in another way!
