After two years as a widower, my brother has announced he is tying the knot again. Problem is, both he and his new wife have everything under the sun; toasters, towel sets, dishes, the usual wedding gifts would be just an addition to what they already own. Anyone have an original idea?

In those situations, I usually go with something sentimental (I am a girl, I can do that!) like a personalized photo album, or frame that they can use for a wedding photo.

Maybe a bottle of very good champagne, with two champagne glasses for the honeymoon.

What about a picnic basket?

Although they have everything they need, they will probably want to make some changes around the house. (you know that you are NEVER done LOL) They may want to add closet space, buy organizers or storage containers, fix up their yard, change the lighting or fixtures etc... Once they get together completely and mix everything, the new wife will want to make some changes. (It's in our blood- we can't help it. Wink) A home improvement gift certificate always makes a great gift and would be used for sure!

I was going to suggest a gift certificate, as Clare did, but offer other types of stores: a certificate to a movie rental (or DVDs of their favortes movies), one to a local independent book store, one to a favorite restaurant or a restaurant that they might like to try (or one that they would never splurge for), one to a B&B for a nice weekend away, tickets to a concert or play that they would like, etc. Get creative, and both they and you will be very pleased with your choice. A gift that shows real thought and personalization like those can mean so much more. Second marriages offer a much better chance to give a more meaningful gift than a toaster. No one talks about a toaster a week after they first used it, but a concert, a weekend away, a book will create memories that will last.

Thanks one and all for the suggestions. Since my brother lives in NC, and I have no idea what stores are there, my sister and I are going to spring for a dinner on us at a nice restaurant.
