Hi! I will be getting married, but I can't decide on when to get married. My fiance' says it is up to me. It got me thinking.... What are the most common months for people to get married? What are the least common? Also, we've been thinking of where to go for the honeymoon - any suggestions? It's fun to know how people decide on when to get married, so if you have a little story, I'd love to read it! Any suggestions or help in deciding would be appreciated!
Thank you! AnimalAngel

Well, my husband and I felt that much of our relationship was unusual.. like how we met in a bus station in Portland, Oregon and then we wrote and called each other for almost 2 years. He lived in Oregon and I lived in Pennsylvania.
We wanted to marry on April Fools Day, but that was during the week and none of my family could take time off from work, so we planned it for April 6th instead.
It was a gorgeous 80 degree day and we went to Gettysburg area in the woods in a cabin for our Honeymoon and went uinto Gettysburg proper for a couple days since Sagus had never been there before.
We have been married 17 years now and have 2 Autistic sons (12 and 14 yo) and a new born daughter (18 mos). We couldn't be happier. (Well, we COULD, but life isn't perfect)

June used to be the most popular month for weddings - remember "June brides"? December, the month I got married, is probably the most unlikely. In our case it was in Montreal Canada and the weather was -40 degrees F. We honeymooned in Ottawa, Ontario, and came back home in a very short turn-around to get our Christmas shopping in. That was 65 years ago - come December 11, 2008. Niagara Falls is pretty popular for honeymoons.
Don’t get married at a certain time or place because it’s popular, do it because it’s what you want. Pick a month that means something to you, or that is particularly pretty in your area, or a day that means something to you like the summer solstice or your birthday or National Talk Like a Pirate Day. That said, I think June (spring and summer months in general) are still pretty popular for weddings.
My husband and I married in October because it is beautiful here in upstate New York in the autumn, and because it made sense economically (off-peak season for honeymooning, cheaper rates at the party house, etc.) and it was long enough after I’d graduated from college for us to be financially set enough to have a wedding and take a vacation.

I'm getting married next month. I chose the date I did for a reason. I could have chosen Valentines Day or because of the 8's, 8-8-08.
But I chose September 27th because that is the anniversary of our first date. It has alot of special meaning to us.
Elexina is right. Don't pick a certain day or month because it is popular. Pick one that is unique to you, one that has a special meaning to you and your fiance'.
Elexina is right.Choose what suits you two and seems best. For example, when I got married we chose June 2nd in Cardiff, the capital city of Wales. June 2nd is the date of Her Majesty the Queen's coronation, and there's an annual remembrance of that in Cardiff.
So, when we got married there was a parade of troops and a 21 gun salute beforehand. I explained that that was for us, and thanked my father-in-law for providing it. (I think some guests still believe it )
Best wishes, definitely. Just make it memorable and nice for you, and don’t woory about what anyone else thinks or expects or tends to do. It is, after all, your wedding.

Choosing a date also depends on the type of wedding you want...do you want to get married outside or honeymoon at a certain time of year?
My brother and his wife chose October because they both love the fall colors...they got married outside on a pier by Lake Huron...it was a gorgeous fall day and the colors were beautiful...they also wanted to honeymoon in New England where the colors would be pretty.
When I was younger I fantasized of a Christmas time wedding with all the pretty chritmas lights, trees and pointsettias.
