Remember the urban legend of movie goers being stabbed my a hyperdermic syringe filled with AIDS infected blood? Seems that scenario has been closely duplicated in real life in Athens, GA.
From the Athens newspaper this morning and also from the website OnlineAthens.com:
Story last updated at 10:49 PM on Oct. 2, 2005 Woman stuck with needle at theater
A 34-year-old Athens woman was rushed to the hospital Saturday to have blood tests performed after being stuck by a hypodermic syringe that had been duct-taped to a seat at Carmike Cinemas on Lexington Road, according to an incident report by Athens-Clarke police. The woman, who had gone with a group of friends to see a movie, said the needle stuck her in her thigh, police said.
An off-duty officer working as a security guard at the theater confiscated the syringe, police said. According to the officer's report, the syringe contained a small amount of red liquid that appeared to be blood.

And from the Atlanta Journal and Constitution (ajc.com) Woman pricked by needle at Athens theater
Associated Press Published on: 10/05/05 ATHENS — A hypodermic needle that pricked a woman in a movie theater was intentionally taped to a seat to injure someone, police said.
In the needle's syringe was a small amount of what appeared to be blood but authorities had not yet identified it.
The needle and syringe have been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to examine the liquid, to see if it contained any diseases and to check for fingerprints, Maj. Keith Morris of the Athens-Clarke police said Tuesday.
The needle prick happened Saturday as the woman, whose name has been withheld, went to see a movie with a group of friends, police said. She told police she felt a prick in her thigh when she sat down. Duct tape had been used to attach the needle to the theater seat, police said.
So far, the woman has not shown any ill effects from the prick, Morris said. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Note: I know 2 people with the GBI. I will try to follow up on this.

I wondered how long it would take for that to really happen. Every time something is declared to be an urban legend, I figure some nut will get the idea to make it reality!
