I recently heard a story on the power of prayer. The story goes that there was a small town in Kentucky that had two churches and a distillery. There was much discontention between the two because the owner of the distillery was an outspoken athiest and the churches resented his business. One Saturday night the two churches held a prayer meeting and asked God to intervene in the dispute. A thunder storm came, a bolt of lighting hit the distillery, and the resulting fire burnt the distillery to the ground.

The insurance adjuster that inspected the distillery refused coverage because it was claimed that the fire was caused by an act from God. A law suit was filed. The distillery owner stated that the churches caused the fire because they were in collaboration with a third party. The churches claimed that they were not responsible because it was an act from God.

In the opening statements from the judge, he said that it was a perplexing case because the athiest was claiming it was a act from God brought on by the prayer meeting and the churches were proclaiming that they had no responsibility because it was an act from God.

Is this story true and if it is, what was the outcome of the case?

This isn't a true story so there is no outcome. This is a series of sermons brought about to spark interest in the power of prayer.

The moral of this sermon is to believe in prayer, practice prayer, and take responsibility for our prayers.

If the atheist was smart he would have told the insurance adjuster that there is no such thing as God so it couldn't have been an act of God. It would have been covered. LOL
