As this is my favourite forum of AnswerPool I am asking someone to explain to the un-initiated (ME!!)just exactly what Ground Hog day is and how do you celebrate it?

Here is a website that explains the history of ground hog day. Basically, it states if a ground hog comes out of his hole on this specific day and sees his shadow, there will be 6 more weeks of harsh winter weather. In other words, if there is no shadow seen, Spring will come earlier.

Groundhog day is my state's evil holiday which has spread over the United States and who knows where else. It involves reaching into a specially constructed "groundhog home" for an overfed and lethargic groundhod and holding it up in front of thousands of people with bright flashing camera lights and noise.

Can't be any good for the groundhog. I mean, there will nearly ALWAYS be a shaddow because of the flashes of the camera. It jinxes the whole thing! O well.

Actually, I dont really care either way. but the site provided above does have a fairly unbiased view of Groundhog Day that deserves looking at.

Amusing film , too. Can't be many films that have given their names to some experience in everyday life; at last we have an English term for deja-vu !

Looks like those ground hogs are looking for love, not their shadows.

I feel sorry for the poor groundhog. Being pulled out of his place,bright lights, loud drunk people cheering and a rather large man gives him a kiss! I am surprised he hasn't urinated on anyone yet! I guess I'm a little embarrased to be from the evil ground hog state.
