George Phillips, of Meridian Mississippi was going up to bed when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window. George opened the back door to go turn off the light but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things. He phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your house?" and he said no. Then they said that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock his door and an officer would be along when available .George said, "Okay," hung up, counted to 30, and phoned the police again. "Hello I just called you a few seconds ago because; there were people in my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I've just shot them all." Then he hung up. Within five minutes three police cars, an Armed Response unit, and an ambulance showed up at the Phillips residence. Of course, the police caught the burglars red-handed. One of the Policemen said to George: "I thought you said that you'd shot them!" George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!" (True Story) I LOVE IT...

This is a good one...Now for real I live in the country and someone broke into my house which sits behind the main one (small one room) and stole my laptop last week! We called the police and they were only going to do a phone report until my brother called them back and demanded that someone come out here and they did..

That is the problem with urban legends. People start doing stuff and "it must be okay because I saw it on the internet and my internet would never lie to me!"

I live in Mississippi, and I can tell you that things like this happen around here all of the time, especially in the rural areas. A good bit of Mississippi is rural. I used to live in one. My house was being broken into, and I called the police 3 times. My brother lived 35 miles away and he was there 45 minutes before the police. It was a good thing that I knew where to hide where the robber would not find me and my son. (In the attic) The robber was never caught, and he got away with all of my jewelry and several hundred dollars in cash. This is the reason I will no longer live in a rural area.
