A bicycle dynamo is a little devise which attaches to the rim of your bicycle tire that generates a small electric current as the wheel goes round, enough to light up a head light.
I was thinking of getting one for a younger member of our extended household - but low and behold these things appear to be pretty hefty in price - $50, $100 or more!
Now when I was a kid (in the middle of the last century) My father got me one of these things for my bicycle - I know my father enough to know that he wouldn't have spent the equivalent of $50.00, $100.00 plus dollars on something that would be subject to wear and tear that a boy would do to a thing like that (I think it lasted maybe a month).
Has anyone seen these nifty little devises anywhere cheap? I checked Wal-Mart (ew) and they didn't have any, and the clerk who worked there gave me a blank expression.
I checked the World Wide Web and discovered that things are pretty expensive, that and a shipping and handling charge.
This would be for a kid who is 10 years old, active and most likely bound to get about a month of use out of the Dynamo before killing it (If he is anything like me).
Cheers
David
