You always come through so here goes. My sister and her husband recently moved to Gulfito, a coastal town in Costa Rica. What in the world can I send them for Christmas? Can't send gift cards -- no "regular" stores there. I don't even think that I can send any type of food there because of customs regulations. Really don't even know if, for instance, I bought them something from (i.e.Sharper Image)if they would even ship it down there? Help!

Burn her a CD of fave songs the two of you grew up listening too. Or send her a photo album with pics of you two throughout the years. Course there are the tried and true gifts...movies, books, hobbies...

See what I mean! Thanks for those ideas, girlfriends. Hey, do you know if I could get a magazine subscription -- would they deliver there? I know that my sister likes to keep up-to-date on things and they're pretty isolated there.

Yes, you can arrange magazine subscriptions, the cost for international delivery is quite a bit higher but the option is there... and you can't send FRESH foods,(fruit, meats( except canned), fresh herbs, garden seeds) but dry, canned or baked goods are no problem..The exception is commercial food goodies, like Hickory Farms gift packs....just don't send "special" brownies And gift items under a certain value (varies by country) are not subject to duty taxes so if you were thinking small electronics, you just need to be sure it would be compatable with the electrical system.... do they fish? Send hooks and line! A friend who goes to Costa Rica every couple of years tells me that fishing gear is a bit hard to come by in the more out of the way places.
