I'm curious as to what experiences members have had with E-Bay. I'm going to help my father sell a very large train collection and was thinking of using E-Bay to sell some of the items.

Any advice or stories would be greatly appreciated?

I bought a trombone mouthpiece for my som, and was very pleased with how things went in the transaction.

We downsized from a 4 bedroom house to a two bedroom apartment and had to get rid of a lot of stuff. I sold some things on Ebay with mixed results. I would advise getting a good idea of the packing and shipping costs before you post your items. Very often the shipping costs and packaging materials are more than the winning bid and the buyers pull out when they find out the final cost. Also between the time you list the item and the auction finishes you can expect a lot of e-mail questions from bidders. Also expect the winning bidder to hold off to the last seconds in efforts to not bid the price any higher than necessary. Good luck. Wink

With selling OR buying, it's also important to keep an eye on the feedback. I haven't done any selling yet, but have bought quite a bit, and tend to avoid buying from a seller that has had much negative feedback (depending on what it is of course)

The feedback area is a very useful tool Smile

I have bought/sold nearly 700 items on Ebay with only one problem. Giz is right, the feedback is very important. If they haven't got 100%, read what comments people say.
When you list your item, give as much info as you can. Photos are essential. Quote the postage. Get it weighed beforehand if a heavy item remembering to add on extra for the box/packing etc.
Ebay is a wonderful thing for most of us!

Good luck Smile

My mom's friend orders and she sells things on ebay. She told me she really likes it and has had no problems with ebay. She absolutely loves it.

If you don't want the items to be sold too cheaply, remember to add a reserve price.

I've been playing around in ebay for awhile now. MOST things are fine... but the occassional item is substandard. It's the world's biggest garage sale --- what the heck?
