A babushka for Baba, Mx2?
Tigre, the best thing you could take them is a knowledge of their culture. Try to pick up a little of the Russian language. A local library will have tapes. A book from Borders about Russian for Tourists will also be helpful. (There is a book titled "My First 1000 Words in Russian" that would be a big help.) Look at a Russian cookbook, and you can familiarize yourself with not only what you will be eating, but what it is called. While at the library, 15 minutes spent looking at a book on Russian Icons will allow you to identify the ones you are most likely to see. Read a book on Russian history. (Find a basic one!) Listen to some Russian composers of Classical music. As far as actual gifts, the scarves is a good idea, as are small jewelry pins. Small pins of the US flag or the Statue of Liberty may be very appreciated. Remember that you are visiting a culture that was old when the US was founded. Be prepared to be kissed on both cheeks as a greeting, and to have your face touched gently. Most of all, be prepared to be genuinely loved. When you return, please let us know about your trip !
(If you have to visit the McDonald's in Moscow, remember that the prices are so high compared to what most Russians earn that one meal may be a week's earnings.)
