Hello, I'm new here, but I wanted to share this program with people. I just bought some Christmas lights on ebay and they're great. I used this program called Nabit and it let me keep track of my bids from my desktop. Hope it helps. Has anyone else used it?

Hi bop2. Welcome to Answerpool. Smile

I shop on Ebay. Although it seems like a great program for someone who does a lot bidding, I am a little leery of this. You need your eBay User ID and Password logged in. I don't think I would trust any program that needs my main password for it to work. I don't do that much bidding and would feel more comfortable just logging in. I'm just skeptical.

P.S. I have been a victim of an Ebay mail spoof so I am leery of anything like that needing my password.

Hey I was a bit skeptical of this at first too, but that was only until I read that it was fully endorsed by ebay itself and that’s when I gave it a try.
Just wanted to clear that up because I had the same concerns. Also sorry that you were caught in a ebay scam clarebear.

A note of caution

Clare, you are right to be wary. Why is this tracker free? If you had 'invented' a good product, wouldn't you make money by selling it? Unless of course you can collect everyone's user ID and password and if it's free then more people will take up your offer.......

I very much doubt that eBay would recommend anything that requires you to give your password. They are continually warning members about all the spoof e-mails, and telling them that they must never reveal their login information.

I would recommend that you contact eBay and check with them before using this or anything else asking for your password.

You are correct Karrow! I really wanted to know what Ebay thought of this so I used the live help to find out.

I copied and pasted my chat with the Ebay representative below. * I replaced my Ebay name for the name clarebear. *

While waiting for your chat to begin, you can start typing in your question. To help us address your questions as quickly as possible, please include your email address, eBay User ID and any other pertinent information such as item numbers, error messages, etc. (if available). We may also require your name, address and phone number for verification purposes.

Your entries will become visible to the agent once they have joined the chat. Thank you for your patience.

clarebear: Hi
Your chat session has started..
clarebear: I have been told about a program called nabit. It allows you to view your bidding offline. I am a member of answerpool.com and this question was posted: Hello, I'm new here, but I wanted to share this program with people. I just bought some Christmas lights on ebay and they're great. I used this program called Nabit and it let me keep track of my bids from my desktop. Hope it helps. Has anyone else used it?
Craig: Hello and welcome to eBay Live Chat. I apologize for the wait. My name is Craig. I'll just need a moment or two to review your concern.
clarebear: The second reply states: Hey I was a bit skeptical of this at first too, but that was only until I read that it was fully endorsed by ebay itself and that’s when I gave it a try.

clarebear: Could you please tell me if Ebay really endorses this?
clarebear: Oh by the way... I got one of those spoof emails last year and logged into it. I am leery of any of these Ebay helper sites.
Craig: To the best of my knowledge eBay does not endorse nabit. This is the first I've ever heard of it to be totally honest.
clarebear: Do you think the site could have stolen her password?
Craig: It's quite possible. I looked on the nabit site and it says "your eBay User ID or Password. You will notice that in order to open Nabit, you must sign in with your eBay User ID and Password. This login process, administered by eBay, grants Nabit a “token” to access the information in your My eBay account WITHOUT telling us your eBay User ID or Password. This way your credentials remain secure, and if you choose “Remember Me” at login, we will save that token and you will be able to bypass the login process next time you open Nabit."
clarebear: Would you mind if I post this discussion on the site?
Craig: I wouldn't mind that at all. It's possible a software developer made this program using the eBay Developer network developer.ebay.com but that would not guarantee "endorsement" by eBay.
clarebear: So you don't know if its safe or not?
Craig: I wouldn't recommend the use of it as this is the first I've ever heard of the program.
clarebear: Answerpool is a very reputable safe surf site. I do not want to post information that is incorrect.
clarebear: Ok
clarebear: Thank You so much for your time Craig.
clarebear: It is very appreciated. Smile
Craig: You're very welcome.
Craig: Your best bet may be to go to http://pages.ebay.com/help/contact_us/_base/result_2_2_12.html and click email under Customer Support Options.
Craig: They will respond back to you with the most current information. They may have heard more about nabit than I have.

clarebear: Thank you very much! Have a wonderful day.
clarebear: Smile
Craig: You too! Smile Thank you for using eBay Live Chat.

bop2,

I want to thank you for trying to share a great idea. We always like good ideas. I know they said they were endorsed by Ebay but you can't believe everything you read. Want proof? Here is my moron thread. Click here to see what an idiot I was. Hope to see you around the boards. Smile
