Buying Cigarettes Online

For starters... it's not me who smokes (just mentioning to avoid the stop smoking lectures HAHA). My mom buys cigarettes for my dad, and I just thought I'd try to find out if it's cheaper to buy them somewhere online. The kind he smokes are Winston (regular, full flavor, non-menthol).

I have browsed a couple of online cigarette stores, and they don't have that type. If anyone comes across somewhere online that sells them, please let me know. Thanks!

I'm finding them all over the place but what is interesting is they all are around $31 a carton with the exception of the two notated below:

www.online-smoke.com
www.discountcheapcigarettes.com $16.39 a carton
www.bigdaddysmokes.com
www.ncsmokeshop.com
www.tobaccobarn.com $23.00 a carton

On a side note, according to the Better Business Bureau:
"Virtually all sales of cigarettes over the Internet are illegal because the sellers are violating one or more state and federal laws, including: (1) state age verification laws; (2) the federal Jenkins Act (which requires that such sales be reported to state authorities); (3) state laws prohibiting or regulating the direct shipment of cigarettes to consumers; (4) state and federal tax laws; (5) federal mail and wire fraud statutes; and (6) the federal RICO law. Many of the sales made by foreign websites also violate federal smuggling, cigarette labeling, money laundering and contraband product laws."

It would be cheaper for him to buy a rolling machine, the tobacco and rolling tubes. Any tobacco shop carries them. They can find the brand closest to his. Get the Supermatic II machine and tubes. The machine is great. Like this one

Once you have bought the machine, it costs about 60 cents to $1.00 cents a pack depending on the type of tobacco. (Most brands average 90 cents a pack which includes the cost of the tubes) Your local tobacco shop will guide you in the right direction.

Is there a Reservation anywhere near you? Often, Native American communities have a "Smoke-Shop", where discount cigarettes are available.

Hi, it is still legal to buy cigarettes over internet. Though the law prohibits selling through Internet. But it has nothing to do with the customers who purchase cigarettes. Therefore it is still legal to buy online cigarettes, as there is nothing dangerous for the customers themselves. You should carry in your mind one important fact that the law prohibits selling and delivering cigarettes, but it's still legal for a smoker to buy them. I am a constant buyer at (link removed) they have all brands to offer even to the most pretentious customers, they sell all kinds of brands, including European, US made cigarettes and all kinds of tobacco from Indian Reservations. You can find any brands of cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, and etc in one place.

portions of this post removed per APs policies about advertising and about encouraging criminal acts. "Tax Free" cigarette purchases are unlawful in most, if not all, US jurisdictions.

I remember once when someone got in legal trouble for going across state line to Indianapolis from Illinois to buy cartons of cigarettes. I don't remember why but I think it was something about taxes. I bet it would be the same buying online if they were found out.

I'll explain that a bit.It would be remarkable if the tax authorities in the United States did not look to the buyer for the customs duty and any other taxes payable. The goods are tax free on leaving the country of origin. They remain so when arriving in the US, if they are kept 'in bond' , in a bonded warehouse or specifically approved store [e.g.some antiques auctioneers have that storage right for goods imported for sale and which are then sold by them].Once they leave bond, duty and any local sales taxes are payable.Normally the warehouse itself will not be allowed to release goods without the duty being paid first. It looks to the buyer to pay these before the goods are sent out.

An importer who, like some of these online sellers, has the goods sent directly to you ex a foreign country,by way of trade, does, at best,he'd argue, make you the importer and himself your agent. You are liable for the duty.At worst he is committing an offence, since he is not your agent but himself a buyer who sells on to you and is seeking to avoid payment of duty. You are committing an offence, in the first case, by not paying duty and, further, in seeking to avoid doing so, and in the second in conspiring with him [when you place an order] and assisting him as a principal [when you receive the goods] to avoid duty.

It is naive to think that the ultimate buyer, you, cannot be committing an offence.Sellers love you to think that. You, in fact, are the reason for an offence being committed .You know that duty is not being paid and that the intention of you and the seller/importer is that it shall not be.It would be odd indeed if the law in the United States said that the person who set in motion the commission of a crime was innocent of it and equally odd if a person who, knowing that a crime was being committed or about to be committed, took part in it to perfect it, was innocent !

Of course, it is always possible that customs and revenue authorities in the United States like citizens not to pay duties, and that sellers who sell within the US and do account for duties and taxes thoroughly approve of such cut-price competition from those who don't, but who knows?

Yes you can buy cigarettes online but as you know that smoking is not good for health so I’ll suggest to go for e-cigs. Its easy to buy e-cigs online and don’t have any harmful effect like normal cigarettes.
