Generally speaking, the post will stay up for quite a while. The reasoning is that others may have a similar question or problem, and will benefit from having the question and answer easily accessible. (This, of course, does not hold true for someone asking about an upcoming concert or TV program.) A look at how many Views some threads in Computers have is a perfect example. Web sites often have a link to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), with generally a dozen or so questions and answers. AnswerPool has thousand of Frequently Asked Questions and answers, all on file, visible, categorized, and easily accessible.
