Boston Brown Bread
2 1 lb coffee cans needed (empty)

1 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup rye flour
1 cup yellow corn meal
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
2 cups buttermilk
2/3 cup molasses
3/4 cup raisins

Mix all ingredients well. Grease 2 1 pound coffee cans. Divide the batter equally between the cans. Cover tops with foil. Place in a large pot of boiling water. Cover and simmer for 2 hours. (Don't let your pan boil dry) let cool for 10 minutes, turn out of cans, slice and serve. Excellent on the side of any meal, or salads and soups.
