My sister sent me this today. Hers works, mine doesn't - ?
If you go to www.google.com and type in your telephone number, it will actually pull up your home address and directions to your house. If this bothers you, go to www.google.com and put in your entire phone number (i.e. 555-555-5555). If your phone number is listed, it will show your name and address and give you two map options - Yahoo and MapQuest. Try it and see how accurate the map is - VERY SCARY!! Any person wishing to discover the physical location of a phone number could use this feature to locate the home. There is, however, a way to REMOVE the phone number from their data base You will first need to check to see if your number is listed. If the number appears in the mapping database, an icon resembling a telephone will appear next to the first or second entry page. Clicking on this icon will take you to a page containing a description of the service and a link to request your number be removed from the database. So far unlisted numbers and cell phone numbers do not show up."
What do you think about this? Is yours revealed? ************************************************** ************************************************** 04-06-03, 09:33 PM JohnGalt Anyone can remove themselves from this part of Google's data base by clicking here and following the instructions on how to remove your information.
04-06-03, 10:11 PM methos Switchboard will do the same thing. You can remove yourself from switchboard by following these instructions:
Because Switchboard has listing information for most listed residential households in the U.S., Switchboard may contain your listing and you may want it removed. To remove your listing, go to our home page, click "My Personal Listing," then click Remove Your Personal Listing and follow the directions. Once you delete your listing, it should never again appear in an update. Or, send your listing as it appears in our database to webmaster@switchboard.com and enter 'Delete' in the subject field. Deleting a listing takes about a week from the time we receive your letter. If you do not have email, ask a friend to send us email, or write to Switchboard, P.O. Box 1296, Westboro, MA 01581.
You can buy CDs that you can search this way too. If you're listed in the phone book, you'll have a lot of difficulty finding everywhere that you are listed this way.
04-07-03, 09:14 AM Elexina Hmmm, I tried it and all I got was, "Your search - ********** - did not match any documents." I tried it with dashes and without. Oh well.
04-12-03, 09:06 AM Matiqua Mine was not revealed.
04-12-03, 09:49 AM NCcichlid Most evenings between 6 and 7, I get a call on my cell phone that is a fax attempt.
I've entered the number, have found out the business, and will visit them Monday.
Thanks for the info.
04-12-03, 09:57 AM methos I'm curious Elexina - did you try it with the old '716' area code also? Just curious if maybe they haven't caught up with the change for everyone.
04-12-03, 02:19 PM Elexina Methos: No, I didn't, but now I have and it still doesn't do anything. Just says that my search did not match any documents.
08-17-03, 03:15 PM grumpybear Mine said that too
