I've heard a lot of people talk about the value of struggle and hardships in one's life. I know I've seen it plenty here. So I was wondering, does capitalism contribute this value in our lives well? Would people who are against capitalism also not believe struggle is important?

What an interesting question, Jusork!

There are struggles in any life, even if one lives in a socialist country - I'm thinking of countries like Norway or Denmark here, since they're pretty successful socialist countries. You still can get sick or have your heart broken or have a child die, just like anywhere else. There are still struggles in life, even if you don't have to worry about health care.

The only differece would be that if you live in a socialist country, there is a safety net, so that you can fail, but not fail to the extent that you can in capitalism. No matter what you'll always have health care and your kids will be able to go to school and there will be food on the table, but you still would have other day to day struggles.

Also, I suppose that for the more radical socialists - say Marxists - the struggle would be communal. That is, I may not have to struggle for myself as much, but I will still struggle just as much for the community.

Thanks, Sarai. Well, I guess you said what everyone else would've said. You do make perfect sense there.

It's interesting that Hitler titled his book Mein Kampf (My Struggle). Not sure if he was a capitalist or not.
