I want to get my girl friend one of these 3 for our 10th anniversary. I know that's a long way off Eek (2010) but just thinking ahead. I already gave her all 3 but this one I miight engrave something on it. I guess it all depends on which one is easier to have something written on it. Wink

Question:
If a guy were to get you a ring, kneckless or bracelet, what would you prefer?

Choices:
Ring
Kneckless
Bracelet

I think it would depend on what you were giving it to her for.

If you are planning on proposing, a ring of a gem she would like is a great idea.

As for MY tastes, I prefer earrings as I am an RN and rings and bracelets get in the way of the work I do. The same may be true of her.

If I got a ring, I prefer a bezel setting or channel setting since the stones are then low profile and don't snag on anything or get caught on clothing, etc.

This is a bezel setting (the round setting around the stone):

This is a Channel Setting (the band of metal on either side of the stones):

My vote is for earrings, too. I love earrings, I must have a hundred pairs. Bracelets and anklets can snap if they catch on things, and necklaces only go with so many outfits, but earrings are great. Tough to engrave, but it can be done. I have some Holly Yashi earrings with her name on the back, so it can be done.

Never ever ever EVER (in my opinion) give a girl a ring of any sort -especially if you have been together for some time and you have no plans to marry- unless you want her to assume it is an engagement ring.

Speaking as a girl who has had many boyfriends but never married, I adore rings! And never have I mistaken a ring as a promise of engagement. It has a lot to do with the design of the ring and the manner with which it is presented. And tho' my past bf's have long moved on I still enjoy wearing the rings. As info, have also received necklaces, bracelets, and ear-rings but for me personally, I enjoy the rings the most.

Why not a watch to mark all the time that you've shared? If she not a wristwatch kind of girl, then maybe a pendant or charm watch Those are similar to a pocket watch, but smaller and more feminine. It would be a more unique momento and the both back of the watch and the inside of the cover can be engraved.

I agree with Elexina about the ring. If you aren't asking her to marry you then don't get her a ring. Think BIG disappointment. A gift of earrings or a necklace would be fine.

Here is another angle to look at: By the time you get to 10 years she, her friends and family will be wondering when you are getting married. The odds are pretty good that if you get her "just a ring" at 10 years, you may not see 11 years. She may feel she's wasting her time.

Unless you are actually asking her to marry you as you hand her the ring, there shouldn’t be any confusion, but some girls see a ring and immediately think “wedding!!” no matter what the guy is saying at the time. And any sort of ring can be an engagement ring, depending on the economic situation of the giver. My engagement ring is a garnet, not a diamond (I don’t like diamonds). Doug knows his girlfriend better than any of us so if he doesn’t think she’d be disappointed with a not-engagement ring, then that would be a fine gift. But it also depends on what would be practical, like Sherasi said. Something she’d have to take off all the time for work wouldn’t be a lot of fun -because you want to show it off!! Smile As someone who does a lot of computer/mouse work, bracelets can actually be a pain for that -if they are big and bulky. Thin chain bracelets are great, but they might be tough to engrave and also breakable. So, it depends on where she would wear the piece of jewelry, too, I guess.

Have we thoroughly confused you, yet? Big Grin
