I heard once you get a tattoo that you love it so much you want to get another one.

Are tattoos really as addicting like people say they are?

Hey Clarebear! Well I think that they are! I got one in April, and as soon as it was done I wanted another one! No joke! Its so weird! I thought that after I had it done, the need to get inked would be gone. Well I WAS WRONG!!! Smile I guess one of the reasons is that I like to express myself, and I just found another way of doing it. Somepeople might tell you that it is not addicting, but then again they might be the ones that got a small little itty bitty tattoo, and conceal it all the time. I don't see why you would do that, but what do I know?!? Smile I just can't wait to get inked again!!!! Big Grin

Depends on the Person.

I will admit that I have one tat - However this was placed on me under circumstances which were not of my will, I was drugged (slipped a micky) and the job was done without my consent. Thus the only reason why I would want a tatto is to cover the one that I have. But since that was done on me when I was 16 (now being 37) you can see there is no 'pressing' need for me to get that done - it is on a list of things 'To do before I die'.

I have neices and nephews - A good number of them are in their late teens to early twenties.

One Newphew (The illustrated boy as I call him) has many tats and appears to almost get a new one all the time.

One Niece just wanted 'one small one in a hidden place' Now she had three, two of which are not hidden at all.

Another Niece got one and has regretted it ever since, and this was less than an inch in diameter and in a 'hidden' spot.

The first two cases are known 'addictive' personalities. The latter is not.

This would suggest to me that perhaps it is the person's addictive behavior that would determine if getting tattos are an addiction or not.

David you are soo smart!! (not meant in a sarcastic way at all!!) I do have a very addictive personality now that I think about it! For example, I got my hair cut last week, and I just got it cut again!!

I have to say that they are. If you get them for the right reasons. I got mine because I love them and they are a great way to express myself. I don't get them for anyone except me. Now a lady I know got one because she wanted the attention that a new tat can bring and now that the new has wore off she dosen't want any more.My daughter got her first when she turned 18 and now she is wanting more.

I do want a tattoo, and I could see how they would bea addicting...I know body peircing is...I mean i promised myself i would only get my belly button peirced once, but then i ended up doing it twice, and my tongue so I could see where tattoos would also be addicting..Big Grin

There was a time when a face piercing made you different than everyone else. It was a way of expressing yourself and it was seen as rebellious. When I see someone with their eyebrow pierced or their nose, I think they are just trying to be like everyone else. I rarely see adults with face piercings. It is more of a teen thing. It is really hard for me to take someone seriously when they have a piercing sticking out their eyebrow. They just look like a kid.

Clarebare,

I have three, a big one on my back, one on my ankle and one on my hand. I love the feel of the needle and the vibration as the ink goes in. I think it feels awesome and would get completely inked if I owned my own business where noone could condemn me for the way I choose to express myself, but I don't and I have been forced to put them in places they can be concealed for the most part.
