At my high school, homecoming is less geared toward the students and more geared toward alumni coming back to see the school and the student activities ie. sports, special dinners, etc. (especially those alumni who had graduated most recently) where prom was especially geared for seniors and juniors (each having their own prom).

Hooray for run on sentences. Big Grin Razz Roll Eyes

I went to all the homecoming dances at my school. There was the football homecoming and the basketball homecoming. Then there was the Jr/Sr prom....in which I got stood up for Mad (married him later Roll Eyes) but I didn't get to experience prom. I've always regretted not going anyway. Frown

My daughter just got done in May with her Jr prom. It was so much fun for her. She and her friends got all dressed up in long gowns and got their hair done, spent all day together getting ready. They left and went to dinner with their dates, went to prom for about an hour Roll Eyes (guess it was boring) then hit the parties Big Grin (all school sponsered Smile)

Are you getting ready for these things, Doug?

I'm going to be a juinor this year Big Grin so yea I guess I'm getting ready for it. I'm not a kind of guy/ person that likes dances and etc. My girl friend wants to go this year as she said to me in the past. So I guess i'll be a nice guy and do it for her. Wink I don't want to regret ever not going in the first place. If I merry her she will bug me about in all of our lives. I'm a kind nervous being seen with her. I'm afraid I will be laughed at. But who knowes! Wink

Let me tell ya, Doug. If ya don't take her and ya end up marrying her...you'll never hear the end of it, trust me Wink

Why would you think people would laugh at you?? You'll have fun and it's natural to be nervous before these things. I think it's very nice that you'd do that for your girlfriend, even if you didn't want to go. You show a lot of compassion. Smile

i went to my first senior prom when I was a sophomore. I went because I was asked. I'm not much of a dancer, but I'm not gonna turn down an offer. Plus it made me really cool.
Homecoming is diffrent from prom because The Prom is the most important dance of your school career.
If you get a chance to go I would definately go.

went to my prom, sat in the corner, had gum thrown at me, left after 15 minutes. didnt have any fun at all.

next year, the year after i graduated, 4 of my friends were graduating, went to their prom, made a butt out of myslef, danced my bum off, beat all the guys at goldeneye for the 64, embarased all my friends, hung out with the teachers, (hey what do you know, you graduate, they treat you like a human being!).

high school was so much funner when i wasnt in it. Big Grin

Well I had to pay a guy from my piano class to take me to my 12th grade high school prom. And since I went to a private school, funded by a Southern Baptist church, dancing was not allowed so we all sat around in our fancy clothes and listened to a Christian band play. How exciting was that?

I never went to any Home Coming dances. Dang, was hard enuf to get a date to one silly senior prom!

I don't think we had Homecoming dances. We had a few dances scattered throughout the school year.
But for Homecoming, the Alumni would come back to visit the school and we'd have a special football game. The guy would get his date a corsage of huge mums and long ribbons! I went to two Homecoming games. Smile
I also later went back to visit my school at a Homecoming. That was fun!

We didn't have a Jr. Prom - only a Sr. Prom. And yes, I went. My date and I were both Seniors and we figured we'd earned the right to be there! Big Grin

(And before some of you say anything, Yes - my date for the Homecomings and Prom did later choose an "alternate lifestyle"... Roll Eyes But it wasn't because of me! Razz )

I think they would laugh at me because my girl friend is not really popular and I think no on likes her and they will probeley think that I could have picked a hotter girl than that. Or Why did he pick her? That kind of stuff. So you think I should go to my "Seninor" prom huh? Wink

I went to one homecoming dance and no proms.

I wouldn't have gone anywhere near the prom. At our school, the juniors put on the prom, and the class mucky-mucks were trying to get 100% participation. They didn't get it, either, not with people like me in the class. Big Grin. I told everyone I couldn't go because there was an event of worldwide importance on TV that night that I couldn't miss. Everyone was suitably impressed until I told them the event was the first-ever televised Seattle Mariners game.

I never got involved in stuff like that, mainly because I rebelled against anything that most other students did. Besides, proms, even by 1977 standards cost a lot and I couldn't see spending that much money on something like that.

As for homecoming, it was much less formal. And even then, I only went as a favor to the ASB president, who was a good friend of mine and equally shy and backward when it came to girls. He felt it was his obligation as president to go to as many student functions as possible, but didn't want to go by himself. So we each asked a date and went on a double date.

Aw come on don't be so cynical and negative Doug. There are always some unpopular people at dances and nobody says anything to them. And I bet she has plenty of friends, she's probably like me and talks more while in certain classes with friends than in the halls. If anyone says anything, it is only their thoughts and opinions and they know that(unless they're friends harassing you Big Grin) but either way I'm sure they'll respect your decision. Have a good time, you'll see.

I checked "11th" but I went to the prom in 11th and 12th grades. We had such a small school that we had junior/senior proms. No Homecoming, though, not until college (and then it was tailgating and floats and football, not dances).
My 11th grade prom was great. I went with my best friend and we all had a wonderful time. My 12th grade prom sucked. I went with my "boyfriend" and he was a lug all night.
Homecoming was always fun, though.

I went to my senior prom, and thats about it. I didn't want to go to the others that my school had hosted, much less the one that I actually did go to. But I figured that if I hadn't gone to at least one, that I would regrett it.
