I wouldn't even think of not coming back unless that thing dropped was a very large rat or cockroach, then I would seriously consider (due to health reasons) not coming back.
In case you are wondering, rats (when dropped) make a "Thud" rapidly followed by a "squeak" - usually followed by a scurry, scurry sound or more desperate squeaking if the rat broke a leg or was otherwise unable to move.
The Very Large roach hitting he floor would be a thud, followed by a scurry scurry sound and 10 to 1 by screams of "Oh My God - That Enormous!" since in order to really hear a roach fall in this situation that darn thing would have to be prehistoric in size.
