Have another look Your 'kk' is probably not 'kk' but 'kt'. The karat, abbreviated to 'k' or 'kt', is a measure of gold content in the ring. The ring has been stamped to show the gold content. 24 karat gold is very nearly pure gold (99 per cent or so).The lower the number the less gold is in the metal alloy. A ring made of 14 karat gold is made of an alloy of metal containing just over 50 per cent of gold (strictly it's 585 parts per thousand, in modern measurements). In everyday writing we write 'karat' as 'carat'; 9 carat gold; but the jewellery trade writes it as 'karat' to avoid confusion with 'carat' which is a mesure of weight used for gem stones. Gold is a very soft metal. It is impractical to have rings and other jewellery made of 24 karat gold, because it is so soft and bends, wears, and dents easily in use. 14k makes a serviceable ring for everyday wear.
