Hi,
I am writing a novel. I'm into about 4 chapters so far. How do other authors go about re-reading their work; as it gets longer and longer, I won't have the time to always re-read it, but I like to do that before I add more chapters. I know, a pretty dumb question.
Thanks.

It would depend on the reason you wish to re read the chapters. I'd keep an outline of your book on the plot the details of your characters details of the scenes.

Sometimes all you want is a quick review of the outline to refresh your thoughts. sometimes you'll need to read for detail and edit. Add some bit of information to link to a plot twist you've just thought of etc.

I wouln't worry about it. You know the story the best of anyone in the world. You'll be able to fly through the areas you remember.

On some of the last reads..slow down as if you're the reader.. are your thoughts clear and symbols you wish to communcate clear and consistant? Listen to your editors to learn from them.
