What Maisie Knew
Well as you will recall she was the child of divorced, self-obsessed parents. She later opted to go and live with her nanny instead of with either parent. So you can skim to find the point at which she has made her decision. Then, backtrack to get sufficient information to develop the essay. As for Romeo & Juliet, this story has been put in modern context before, most famously as "West Side Story". What I'm suggesting is that if R&J grew up today, the parents might forbid their affair but could not physically keep them apart. So there would be no need for a suicide pact. But what happens when very immature people get together? What happens to their love, when both are used to having their way? |
