That's never an easy thing to have to do. My mother recently had to put one of her kitties to sleep and she had a very hard time with it.

My thoughts and prayers are with Gin and with Clyde.

I am so sorry, Gin. It is one of the hardest decisions to have to make, but knowing you are relieving his suffering will help you.

My dogs are my family, and it guts me when I lose one. I have had to make the awful decision to put them to sleep with every one of them over the years. Frown

My gentle giant (when he wanted to be!!), a handsome dark sable German Shepherd, was put to sleep at the end of April and I am still grieving for him. I know how you are feeling, and my thoughts are with you.

The Cat's Prayer

Although I am too proud to beg, and may appear to be a very independent creature, I ask for your loving care and attention. I rely on you for my well being much more than you may realize.

This I promise you, my benefactor, that I will not be a burden on you nor will I demand more of you than you care to give.

I will be a quiet peaceful island of serenity for you to gaze upon; a soft soothing body to caress, and I shall purr with pleasure to rest your weary ears.

Since I am a gourmet who appreciates different taste sensations, I pray you will give me a variety of nutritious foods and fresh water daily.

You know dear friend, how I love to go. Allow me, I pray, a warm sheltered place where I can rest peacefully and feel secure.

If I am wounded in battle or suffering from disease, please tend me gently, and see that I am treated by loving and competent hands.

Please protect me from the inhuman humans who would hurt and torture me for their own amusement. I am accustomed to your gentle touch and am not always suspicious nor swift enough to avoid such malicious acts.

In my later years when my senses fail me and my infirmities become too great to bear, allow me the comfort and dignity that I desire for my closing days and help me gently in my pain or passing.

Hear this prayer, my dear friend, my fate depends on you.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gin,
I do not know the author of this prayer for our feline friends.....but I just wanted to share this with you - know that whatever you decide to do, you are doing it for Clyde...because you love him and he you. My thoughts are with you...Lydia
Gin,
I send you my deepest sympathies. I know the pain of losing a pet I’m sure Clyde was more than a pet; he was your buddy that greeted you with snuggles and purrs when the times were happy and when the times were sad.
Remember all the joys you had with him, for there he will be, not only in your memories but also in your heart always
Frown Gin, I too know the pain of losing a beloved pet and friend. Take solace knowing that he is no longer in pain.
Rainbowsbridge.com gave me comfort when I last lost a friend:
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
