If I were to visit your area for one week, what 5 places/landmarks (etc.) should I be sure to see? Ex: The Tombstone Pizza "factory", or the original home of a celebrity... ---------- maiku If you were to visit my area, you could visit all the important landmarks in less than an hour. I would advise you to spare even this much time. -------- 06-28-02, 09:00 PM Texan-In-Exile Well, since you asked... Mobile, Alabama: 1. I'd have to show you Bellingrath Gardens & Home. There's something blooming all year 'round, and at Christmas, the whole grounds are extravagantly decorated in lights! 2. You'd HAVE to go to Lambert's Restaurant (Home of the Throwed Rolls) in nearby Foley. Lots of good home-cookin', servers constantly wandering the aisles with pots of "pass-arounds" and surprises, and rolls bigger than a man's fist served by THROWING them at you! 3. While you're over that way, you might as well go on down to Gulf Shores - glistening white sand, beautiful green water and lots of sun! 4. If you're interested in history, we've got the Battleship USS Alabama, historic Fort Conde, and of course, the city museum. 5. Depending on the time of year, you could go to the Junior Miss Pageant (June) (Going on as I write this, in fact!), the Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo (July), or - and you HAVE to see this - in February, we have our Mardi Gras parades and balls! Mobile is, after all, the "Mother of the Mystics"! big grin -------- 06-29-02, 09:04 AM clarebear 1. Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield Village 2. Detroit Insitute of Arts 3. Michigan International Speedway 4. Ann Arbor Art Fair 5. Michigan Renissance Festival -------- 06-29-02, 09:11 AM esencia GlenedenBeach has nothing to offer. Sorry. Of course if ya went about 5-10 mi. to Lincoln City...again nothing...or maybe 15-20 mi. to Newport...shoot nothing. j/k G.Beach really does have nothing.
LincolnCity does have my place of employment, Chinook Winds Casino! Home of Commotion at the Ocean(for all you boxing buffs) & some fantastic shows! We've had Wynona Judd, Bill Cosby, Michael McDonald,Gallagher among others (1 timers) but reoccuring people we've had Paul Revere & the Raiders, Jan & Dean, Williams & Ree, Smokey Robinson, Steppenwolf and more...supposedly for SurfCity Weekend in Sept. we are gonna have 'The Beach Boys'(whats left of them)
Newport does have 'the historic bayfront' they have The Wax Museum, Ripley's Believe it or not & Oregon Coast Aquairium which used to be home to Keiko. -------- 06-29-02, 01:23 PM mahal 1--Seattle Space Needle (if you have the money, it's worth it to eat in the rotating restaurant at the top).
2--Victoria, BC, Canada (a little bit exclusive because of prohibitive cost to get there--great botanical gardens and shopping)
3--Roselyn, Washington (filming site for the series "Northern Exposure")
4--Pike Street Market, Seattle (fresh seafood always, most of Seattle's character gathers here)
5--Naval Air Station, Whidbey Island (get an autograph from any of the crew of a certain surveillance aircraft recently detained on a little Chinese island) -------- 06-29-02, 04:21 PM CurtisLoew Ohio Stadium (on a Football Saturday, of course) Jack Nicklaus Museum Columbus Museum Of Art Shadowbox Cabaret Olentangy Indian Caverns -------- 06-29-02, 04:28 PM dogspit The first two essentials are not actually in Phoenix Metro but are must see:
1) The Grand Canyon - it lives up to the hype. 2) Sedona - Pink Jeeps Tour 3) Desert Botanical Garden - For me personally the most peaceful spot in the valley of the sun 4) Bank One Ballpark - Home of the world champion Arizona Diamondbacks 5) Scottsdale's "Gallery Row", a bunch of art galleries, antique shops, and awesome clubs all within mere blocks, scrumpdillyicious. -------- 06-30-02, 04:30 PM nerdqueendeluxe First of all, don't plan much time for Anchorage. Mama calls it "just another suburb of Seattle". The flowers are the best thing. http://www.anchorage.net/1.cfm
