Where is the most interesting place you ever went on vacation?

I was sent to Arizona to work in Tucson. I was supposed to be there two days then fly back the second night. But, because they were not prepared for my visit, I was there for a week. Furthermore, because I had to constantly converse with my home office in Louisville, KY, and the difference in time zones, I only worked each day from 8am to 2pm. I had the rest of the time to enjoy the desert, with the company picking up the tab on my hotel, all my meals, and the rental car. I had a blast, and it didn't cost me a thing. They actually paid ME! Suckers....

Fort Meyers Beach in Florida.....the white sand is breath taking when you first see it....especially when i'm used to dirt, mud and brown sand in missouri....also the red ozark rocks (sharp at that) but the ocean was beautiful and the sunset too....plus my grandma's friends granddaughter was there and she's....lets not go there but i had a blast!!

The best place I've ever been to is the House on the Rock in Wisconsin. I am headed back in Oct.

Throughout Asia, you can visit the various Buddhist temples--most welcome visitors as long as you're willing to take off your shoes.

Just outside Kuala Lumpur there's a temple with a hundred and some odd steps leading up to the entrance. The things that were different about this one:

The temple was just a cave with a natural hole in the top in the back for the sun to light the shrines all day.

You're greeted by monkeys begging for food as you go up the stairs. I got some pics of them tearing open potato chip packages and trying to drink from small bottles with two hands and all fingers.

Even though there were the normal touristy things there, like a souvenir shop, regular cab and bus service, tours offered through agencies, etc., the worshippers didn't seem to want us there. Monks are usually very hospitable, especially in Thailand, and will often be the ones giving the tours. This is the only time I've ever visited a site like this where the natives seemed to be the real thing and not just polished to earn a revenue.

That would be the month I spent in Cambodia a couple of years ago.
Despite the war and hardships the people have had to deal with up until very recent times, everywhere you go you are greeted with nothing but warmth and generosity.Still the country is poor and has many troubles to overcome.
There's some beautiful countryside and primary jungle, with wild animals and waterfalls, alongside barren, desolated, bombed out landscapes.
There are ancient Angkorian temples and palaces, alongside ruined modern cities and ghost towns.
Novice monks,landmine experts,farmers,gem miners,ex Khmer Rouge soldiers, illegal loggers were amongst the many colourful characters we encountered along the way.
What an eye opener that trip was!

I know I risk coming across as some boring geek, but you asked the most "interesting" place I've been on vacation. The most interesting place was the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. It's unbelieveable!

Now if you want to know the most "fun" vacation, that would be my Club Med vacation to a singles club in Playa Blanca, Mexico :-)

Oceangurl, I did mean interesting. I would also find the Smithsonian more interesting then the club. Fun you can have most places if you put your mind to it, but INTERESTING comes a little harder. All the places do sound so interesting! I wish I could have traveled when I was younger like all you guys. I would have enjoyed it so much!

I have enjoyed all my vacations but the absolute best was a photo-safari I took to Kenya. I went with Abercrombie and Kent, and they took care of us like we were royalty. An absolutely amazing trip, Nairobi is a fantastic city. I would go back in a shot.

I was born and raised in Sierra Leone, West Africa which is an interesting juxtaposition to where I live now.

Since the question was about interesting VACATION spots, I would most definately say Las Vegas is the most interesting. I had never dreamed there could be so many lights in one place. At night, the strip is like a giant fireworks display of neon, and is still impressive in the daylight.

Just thinking back, I am getting myself worked up about going there again, some day.

It would have to have been this summer during March Break when we took a two day car trip to Florida and went to Busch Gardens. iIt was AWESOME!!!!!!!!
Gwazi was pretty cool and so was Rhino Rally!

I will exclude Florida ,since this is where I decided to live for about 20 years now.

Costa Del Sol, Spain, in 1985, was the best trip I ever made.

Why don't you go and do it now?
It sounds like maybe you're retired already? What a great time to do it. I did my trip with my Father, who'd never been to Asia before. My Grandad was driving himself around Europe,rafting and camel riding into his 80's.
If you are retired you've probably paid off your mortgage already? Family's probably flown the nest, so no need to worry about babysitters or missing school? You're far more street and worldly wise than many young folks travelling. You have probably saved a little bit of money over many hard years working and so could splash out and treat yourself. How about it???

Definitely the most beautiful is Banff in Alberta, Canada. The mountains, lakes and glaciers were amazing. Being from Colorado, I enjoy the beauty of the Rockies everyday, but there was something extra special about Banff. I'm not too sure what it was either.

Banff is beautiful. im lucky enough to be able to go camping either there or Jasper every year, as we live just over an hours drive away from the national parks.
as for my most intersting trip, it would have to have been New Zealand. i was only 5, but i sill remember it vividly. i was totally fascinated with the kiwi birds and black sand beaches.
