wlm, my mother always had dreams of flying in the manner of which you speak. She always felt 'trapped' just before 'taking flight'. She was at the edge of a cliff trapped by fire. She was running and came to a washed-out bridge over a raging river. As she could not stop, she took off in flight. Each time she 'flew' she was always in danger, so this was the 'fight or flight" reaction. Only once did she actually fly off the bed, landing on the floor. I would ask her if her arms were tired; she always answered 'yes.' Ask yourself if you feel, or if you believe, that you are in any kind of danger. Are you facing a situation in which you feel trapped?

I have read that dreaming you can fly, is an indicator that you are content in your life, as it relates to happiness and freedom. I have been a lucid dreamer most of my life, which means I realize I am asleep and can exert a certain amount of direction to the dreams outcome. That began as a child when I would dream of fantastic toys and I would realize I was asleep and they would not be there when I awoke. When I dream of flying, which is only about 10% of the time, I find that there are always some power lines in the way and after I make the first couple of flights, I am unable to fly again until the next occurrance of this type of dream. To fly in my dreams, I just have to run, and then "believe I can fly". The flight itself is kind of like superman, I don't have to keep running or flap my arms or anything, just think about which way I want to go next, and then I do.
Dreams of monsters or villians never scare me, I enjoy them because, as I said, I have lucid dreams and always win the fights. I have been shot and killed in my dreams, but I never die. If that makes any sense.

It is written that with every temptation (trial), God provides a way of escape. In these flying dreams, He is sending the Holy Spirit (the Comforter) as He is represented in the Bible (like a dove), only the dreamer becomes like a dove, flying away. God and His angels much enjoy those more upbeat dreams with their happy, Spirit-filled endings!
Usually, those chasing dreams tire me so that I have to awaken out of them.

Often I have a dream of running into the hall of my home and leaping down a flight of stairs. The instant I am about to hit the floor, I wake up, sweating, heavily breathing, the works. Weirdest thing is, when I do wake up, my body feels the impact, almost as if my whole body lurched down into the bed. Frightening... btw, in response to KK, I've read that flight in itself means contentment, but flying in fear or from danger means discontent and a struggle for freedom.
