Here is my case
on my 2004 1098-T the school reports $20000 total and list
Part 1
$10000
$10000 for 2005 Jan to March

on my 2005 1098-T the school report $0.
And I am in the full time graduate program the semester covers from Jan 2005 to May 2005.

May I deduct $4000 for 2005 although it was paid in Dec 2004?

Thanks so much!

Hello_Lala - Welcome to Answerpool.

You still may be able to take an educational tax credit by amending a previous return. Although it is past April 15th, it isn't too late to amend. Publication 970 (pdf file) covers tax benefits for education. You can call the IRS toll-free tax assistance line at 1-800-829-1040. They will be able to answer your tax questions.

I suggest you consult with a professional tax accountant. You should be able to find a tax preparer in your area which charges around $50.00-$100.00. (It depends on the number of forms needed) It would be worth the money. Smile

P.S. Stay away from H&R Block. Wink
