You will not be pleased to know (but probably not at all surprised to learn) that the
government's claims for debts to
it are never statute barred: 'time does not run against the Crown' ( or
nullum tempus occurrit Regi as the most expensive lawyers say ). However, in a mood to seem fair, the practice of the Revenue is not to chase anyone back beyond six years unless they have, or suspect they have, grounds for suspecting some dishonesty or fraud. Now
isn't that reassuring !
