Should we do away with the Estate Tax ?

Individuals get taxed when they earn and when they spend. It is double taxation to have their heirs be taxed on income that is inherited.

I think that estates taxes are unethical and should be done away with.

I don't think there is anything wrong with estate taxes. The exemption is more than generous; 1 million in 2003 increasing to 3.5 million in 2009 and eliminated altogether in 2010. For one thing it encourages the wealthy to disburse their wealth prior to death, rather than controlling it from the grave, so to speak. Only a very small percentage of the population needs to be concerned about it.
