I haven't filed a return for 2005 and 2006. If I file now, would I still get a refund? Or am I too late?

Well, I'd say that you need to file them regardless of your refund status. It seems to me from the variety of posts you've made that you really must go to a tax consultant. You really can't afford not to because you likely face some penalties rather than a refund and you better get it sorted soon.

Nobody can answer your question without your tax information in front of them and your assistance filling in all the blanks. Do not post that information on the internet - go to a consultant ASAP.

In case you haven't use a consulting service before, you should know that they will deduct their fee from your refund - you do not need to pay upfront and they should be able to tell you quickly if you will be in the situation to get a refund. You may be getting a refund regardless but NOT if you didn't file or pay your taxes.

I know some people that file every few years so they get a big check. I don't think this is a good idea since the IRS is just making interest on your money. You have 3 years to claim a tax refund. The IRS doesn't say anything when they owe you and they won't come find you to give you a refund.

Now if you owe money, you could be racking up some HUGE penalties. If you do owe, they can set up a payment plan.

Tax Law References

* Internal Revenue Code, Section 6501 (3-year audit statute),
* Section 6502 (10-year debt collection statute), and
* Section 6511 (3-year refund statute).

You can call the IRS and ask them questions directly. They are very helpful.

The Economic Stimulus Package check is based on your 2007 tax return. You need to file to get the rebate check. That sure is an incentive! Smile
