I watched Jay Leno's prime time show Monday evening. From what I saw on that first night, it's basically the Tonight Show shown 90 minutes earlier. The only rationale I can see is that it's much cheaper for NBC to have his show in prime time than to have an hour-long drama. But maybe Leno saw the writing on the wall (something Letterman has failed to see) and realizes that his audience has gotten older and became increasingly unwilling to stay up late enough to watch anything after the late night news.

Does anyone else share these thoughts?

For me the move is an odd one. The thing about Leno's show before is that 5 nights a week I knew that if I was watching TV at the time he came on I would be watching his show, as there was nothing that competed... now, there are going to be maybe 2 nights a week (if that many) when I do not have a show on that I like more. So, as for this aging viewer, he has significantly lowered the odds of my viewership.

leno was doomed at the 10pm time slot. the ONLY reason people even watched his show in the first place is because nothing else is on late nights.
